The Space Between
Why psychological and relational space matters for wellbeing, learning, and collaboration
This white paper brings together insights from my doctoral research and my recent work The Space Between to explore a simple but often overlooked question:
What conditions actually allow people to heal, learn, and work well together?
Across mental health, disability support, education, and organisational settings, outcomes are often shaped less by techniques or strategies, and more by the quality of the psychological and relational space in which people are held.
In this paper, I explore:
Why change tends to stall in high-pressure, performance-driven environments
How creative and relational processes support regulation, integration, and meaning-making
The role of art-making and symbolic work as therapeutic and reflective tools
Practical implications for services, educators, and teams
This paper is intended for practitioners, leaders, educators, and organisations interested in evidence-informed, humane approaches to wellbeing and human development.
